Two years ago I received one of the LEAST romantic gifts I have ever been given, it was the gift of scuba certification. I was in total shock when I opened it up and read the words SCUBA. I
tried pretended to seem happy about it, but all I could think was “Great, another way to leave my husband a widower and my two-year old motherless.” Drama Queen right?! But seriously, scuba diving is really scary. If you want to find out if your claustrophobic, get scuba certified! Then when your diving in Cozumel, Mexico 80 feet below the ocean and you start having a panic attack you’ll know pretty quickly if you are or aren’t. But the thing I love most about my husband is how he encourages me to swim out of my comfort zone and is always willing to hold my hand and wipe my tears (true story.)Fast forward to now. I stuck with it and as a result I’m a more confident diver. We actually plan most of our vacations around scuba diving, we’re so wild! I still get worried and nervous before each dive (see above photo – the look of terror!) but I’m getting more and more comfortable and fully trust who I’m diving with.
This particular dive took place at Epcot in Orlando, Florida. It was in a (HUGE) millions of gallons aquarium that included: sting rays, sea turtles, eels, schools of fish and SHARKS!!! The pre-dive tour was amazing! I learned about a lot of the behind-the-scenes of Disney World like: How they get for and care for their aquatic species, the time and attention to detail that goes into having a millions of gallons fish tank, what the back stage areas look like and other behind-the-scenes secrets that you’ll have to do the dive excursion to find out about. The divers that work for Disney are five star and as far as the facilities go, BEST CASE SCENARIO! I’m talking about a highly controlled setting, hot showers with soap, towels and blowdryers! The dives we do are normally off of a small boat in the middle of the ocean and I’m picking seaweed out of my hair hours later as I drip dry. Plus its in an aquarium so your family and spectators can watch and wave at you. #CelebrityStatus
As I mentioned before, I would never have done this type of thing all by myself. Its not like I have a burning desire to do things that increase my risk of a premature death. I do however, love my husband so much that I want to be part of his dreams and adventures as he is mine. Just like he is willing to take dance lessons with me, I’m willing to dive for him. This in a nutshell is the secret to our happy and adventurous marriage.
My diving favorites: I’ve already been through two other diving masks and my Poseidon is the best fit ever! It stays right in place and is closer to my face which makes it easier to clear if water gets all up in there. Also, this was my first time diving with a split fin and I LOVE them. Easier to maneuver and less effort to do so. Plus Amazon is amazing and will ship it right to your door so you can get it without even leaving your house! Boo-Yah! Click the image to check them out.
Disney World was amazing, make sure you’re getting the best deal and doing your research before you go. Get away today is a great resource for saving tons on your Disney trips, check them out here. I’m beyond grateful that my MIL did her research beforehand. There were lots of things such as restaurant reviews, insider tips, helps for booking special character dinners, etc. that we would’ve missed had she not told us.
My sweet princess was so enamored by all of the fishes aka “pishes.” I just love how she sees the world! Kids are seriously the best you guys!
