This is my backyard, er WAS my backyard. And we have some BIG plans to turn this space into our Dream Backyard. You can’t really tell but the level of the ground near the black gate is about three feet lower than the rest of the yard. The yard also slopes up to a hill (where the tractor is) all the way up to my neighbors gate. Originally we planned to do this project(s) 100% DIY, but we quickly realized that it was going to take about 30 years. Since we didn’t have the skills (or tools) to build retaining walls and haul dirt out, we decided to hire a landscaper.
We had the basic plan drawn out to have an upper cement pad and a lower one, with a fireplace, hot tub area, pergola and a deck. Our landscaper helped us shape our ideas into a more functional space. He had the idea to connect the two pads with a path as well as give us options for a more uniform retaining wall where our deck is going. If you are debating whether or not to use a landscaper, just meet with one. They may take your backyard from average to dream backyard status!
Here is what my backyard currently looks like. Didn’t the retaining walls turn out amazing? I’m SO glad I hired a landscaper!!!
This is a close up of the lower cement pad. Its been stamped and still needs to be stained, sealed (tutorial coming soon!!!) then topped off with a pergola, fireplace and chimney. Yum-yum, I feel like I could eat it up! Eventually I will be eating tons of burnt marshmallows from said fireplace.
This is 8 foot gap where the fireplace is going, I can see it now…
Remember this cement pad and staircase? Thats right folks! Our amazing landscaper moved the cement (in one piece) to the side of our yard for our hot tub! My hunky Idaho husband removed the staircase in preparation for the stunning deck he’s going to build. The gravel is where the deck will be going and the dirt is where more lawn will go. It feels like its been taking forever, but I’m so excited to be in the home stretch and seeing the big pieces come together! Stay with me friends, its going to be stunning and I can’t wait to share it with you!
