It’s been almost a year since I’ve done a backyard update, so I figured it was about time. The good news is that some exciting things have been in the works since then… I was recently selected to participate in my second Home Depot Style Challenge (every time I say that, I feel like doing cheerleader style jumps into the air). The last time I participated in a Home Depot Style Challenge, we built this outdoor fireplace, which you can see in the photo above.
Here is what our backyard looked like after the snow melted at the beginning of the spring. Cinder blocks as steps, exposed pressure treated wood and much needed solutions to add some greenery.Even though it wasn’t fully finished, we got a lot of use out of this deck last summer, but we were really excited to add all of the finishing touches to make it really pop.
Let me take you back to what it looked like when we started in the spring of 2015. Keep in mind the entire yard sloped about 45 degrees, which made it easy to add multiple levels. We still needed to remove 8 dump trucks worth of dirt, but it was totally worth it.This photo was taken part-way through the Home Depot Style Challenge. We still need to add the furniture, the new light fixture, plants and decor… but it gives you a good idea of how far we’ve come, from where we started.
Here are a few more pictures of the final result, but I can’t tell you enough how incredibly blessed I feel to have such a supportive and handy husband.
If you want to see the full transformation, head over to the Home Depot Style Challenge on their blog. What do you think of the transformation?
Wow!! It looks so good!! You’re lucky to have such a handy husband! And, he’s lucky to have such a go-getter wife!
Thank you so much! This is one of my favorite projects ever!
