Have you heard of the Vampire Facial aka PRP (platelet rich plasma) Facial? I had heard about it from my Esthetician, Audrey from Trilogy Medical Center, but my only reference to this treatment before that was seeing a bloody-faced picture of Kim Kardashian floating around the internet. Which had me thinking “Um, no thank you.” But I was STILL very curious and just wanted to know what all of the hype was really about. Watch Kim K get the PRP treatment here:

“The Kim Kardashian facial is a variation of the Dermapen treatment,” Dr. Turk told me. “It includes the use of platelet rich plasma which is taken from the patient’s own blood. The platelets further stimulate collagen and elastin growth, so it’s essentially a “turbo charged” Dermapen treatment. It’s especially good for patients who cannot complete a full treatment plan of four [standard Dermapen] treatments (Ed note: that costs $2,500) or whose collagen has been weakened by age or the environment.”Basically, the procedure involves drawing your blood and spinning out the golden plasma. Then using a Dermapen (a tool with small needles that are injected into the skin) that help to reduce pore size, even out your complexion, and push your own plasma deep into the layers of your skin helping you look more youthful and glowing. Sounds painful right!? It’s actually not at all! I think Kim Kardashian is a baby (or they didn’t numb her very well) because during my facialI didn’t even flinch once. I was able to carry on a normal conversation and was totally fine.
The facial started with a very relaxing facial massage and cleansing using Revision Skincare products to remove any makeup, dead skin cells and bacteria.
She then numbed my face with a topical numbing agent to make sure I’d be as comfortable as possible during the treatment.
Then she got to work! I know what you’re probably thinking, and again it DIDN’T hurt at all! Audrey reminded me that “The Dermapen drives the plasma into the deeper layers of the skin and allows the skin to absorb all of the benefits. You’ll have better results because the skin has to literally heal itself, but now it has the plasma to boost the healing process too.”
She used the entire syringe of plasma on my face, but had there been left over I would have been able to take it home and use more topically.
Once the facial was finished she used a warm towel to remove any crusted blood from my face and I left with a bright red face resembling a sunburn. Within the next few hours it had reduced to a dull pink color and by the next day, it was nearly a normal skin tone again.
Within a few days, my skin started getting REALLY dry and tight. I could tell the healing process was in full swing. It took about a week for my skin to slough off those dead skin cells, but as the days have gone on my skin has been brighter and brighter. Two weeks after the PRP/ Vampire facial my skin was GLOWING like no other treatment I had ever done before and my skin was softer than I ever remember it feeling.
