5 DIY Katy Perry Costume Inspirations to Rock at the Dance Party

I am obsessed with Halloween (I literally have more Halloween decor than Christmas)! So as you can imagine, I tend to go all out every year with the decorations. Sadly this year I will be out of town during Halloween, but my Halloween dreams HAD to be fulfilled and having themed dance parties makes up all of the difference. With my upcoming Katy Perry inspired California Dreams Dance Party coming up on Saturday, November 18th, 2017 I decided to put together a DIY list of Katy Perry Inspired costumes that you could use for Halloween or my California Dreams Dance Party (or both)! Don’t have tickets to the dance party yet? Let’s get started, shall we?

  1. Candy Button/Dot Costume

I love how nostalgic this one is. Do you remember eating these candy buttons as a kid? Trying your hardest to separate the candy from the paper only to end up eating small bits of paper. As a kid, it was candy so it was worth the risk. ; )

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • White shelf bra tank top or White dress
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • 2” – 3” Diameter Styrofoam Balls cut in half
  • Glitter paint or glitter spray paint in Pink, Yellow and Blue
  • Cardboard or Newspaper
  • Blue Wig (I found mine on Amazon)

First, cut the Styrofoam balls in half with a sharp knife. Lay them out on your tank top or dress to see how many you need. Then lay them out on newspaper or cardboard. Spray paint or paint in a well-ventilated room. Let dry and then hot glue onto your outfit. I know Katy has Dots going all the way around but let’s be reasonable. We have to sit and drive so I would just glue them onto the sides and front. If you do the tank top you can pair it with a colorful tutu. Finish your look with the classic blue wig and bright colored makeup!

  1. The Peppermint Candy Dress

This Costume is so fun! It would be fun to wear peppermint perfume with this one.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • White Dress
  • Red Fingerless Gloves
  • Clear Cellophane Wrap Roll
  • Peppermint striped ribbon
  • Various sizes of Circular cardstock
  • Glue
  • Red Glitter
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Pencil
  • Paintbrush
  • Black Wig

First, take your circular cardstock and draw with a pencil the swirl design of a peppermint. Paint glue in alternating spaces of the swirl and cover with red glitter. Shake off excess glitter and let dry. Do this for as many peppermints as you want. Once they are dry wrap them in the Cellophane Wrap and tie off the ends with the peppermint striped ribbon. Once you are finished making the peppermints you can then glue them onto your dress. You can also glue the peppermint striped ribbon onto the top or your dress to create a border. You can finish your look with glitter tights, red glitter high heels, bright red lipstick and a black wig!

  1. The Cupcake Top

This Costume is amazingly ridiculous, so of course it must be done! Here is a link to a Cupcake bra tutorial if you want to get really crafty.

Here’s what you’ll need:

First hot glue the Cupcake prop to your tank top or bra and let dry. This one is easy and fun!

  1. The Candy Costume

This dress is one of my favorites, and it’s what I’ll be wearing to the party! So if you want to be twinsies with me, make this one! besides, there are so many amazing variations of this dress that you really can’t go wrong.

Here’s what you’ll need:

First Hot Glue the Felt or Plush Ice Cream Cones onto the Corset. Then Hot Glue the assorted hard candies to the corset where ever you like. Then get the puffy paints and make random sprinkles in various colors all over the corset in the remain space available. Pair your candy top with a rainbow tutu, purple wig, Heart headband, pink tights and candy accessories!

  1. The Neon Costume

With this costume think TGIF and all things Neon. You could do this using any neon color and it would be amazing! Best of all, it does not require a glue gun ; )

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Purple and Turquoise wig
  • Neon top
  • Neon Skirt
  • Neon Heals
  • Neon Accessories

You can mix and match neon colors and use glow sticks as accessories. Finish your look with neon lips and eyeshadow!
